How We Test Flake-Free Glitter HTV: Rub Test, Wash Test and Weeding Test
“Flake-free” is a claim until it is measured. Here is how we test it in Yangju and how you can repeat the tests on your own bench.
Rub test
A 10 × 10 cm sample is applied at 160 °C for 15 seconds, cooled, and rubbed for 10 cycles against black cotton under a fixed weight. The residue on the cotton is collected and weighed. Loose-flake glitter leaves visible dust after a few cycles; encapsulated glitter leaves a clean cloth. Results for standard versus SHINHAN glitter are available on request.
Wash test
Pressed samples on cotton and polyester are washed at 60 °C with a standard detergent and tumble-dried low, then inspected after set intervals for cracking, edge lift and loss of sparkle. A pre-washed piece is included in every sample kit so you can see the result before you order.
Weeding test
A weeding strip of small text and fine lines is cut on a production plotter and weeded at room temperature. We check that the carrier releases cleanly, that no flakes transfer to the weeding tool and that edges stay sharp.
Run the tests yourself
Press two identical samples from the kit on your production fabric.
Rub one for 10 cycles on black cotton and photograph the cloth.
Wash the other at the temperature your customers actually use; photograph after 5, 10 and 20 washes.
Weed the strip and check the tool for glitter dust.
What to ask other suppliers
Is the glitter encapsulated or dusted on?
What wash rating, at what temperature, and by what method?
Can you send a pre-washed sample?
Is the adhesive laminated in-line or in a separate step?
Any supplier who makes the film well will answer all four without hesitation.
