Korean vs. Low-Cost Import Glitter HTV: A Buyer’s Comparison
Unit price is the number on the quote. Landed cost, batch drift, missing documents and failed batches are the numbers on the P&L. A fair comparison of what decorators and brands actually pay.
Start with what decorators report
Low-cost import glitter HTV is not all the same, and some of it is fine. But the complaints decorators post again and again are consistent: glitter that sheds during weeding and washing, colours that shift between rolls, sheets that arrive without any test report, and suppliers that change formulation without notice. Each of those has a cost that never appears on the quotation.
The comparison that matters
Flake control: dusted glitter versus encapsulated, cured glitter. Ask for a rub test and a washed sample.
Batch consistency: is colour difference measured on every batch and is a retained sample kept? Ask for the QC report.
Documents: OEKO-TEX® certificate copy, children’s product test reports, REACH SVHC declaration, Proposition 65 statement, certificate of origin. Ask which are available before you order.
Formats: 500 mm and 1,000 mm master rolls, slit widths, 12 × 12″ sheets and retail packaging from the same plant—or converted somewhere else.
Track record: retail programs completed for demanding brands, or none.
Landed cost, not unit price
Korean-origin film is FTA-eligible in the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and many other markets, and currently carries a substantially lower US tariff than China-origin heat transfer vinyl. Add freight, duty and handling to both quotes—and then add the line most buyers forget: the cost of a failed batch, in returns, re-pressing and lost customers.
