Layering Glitter HTV: Rules That Work (and Combinations to Avoid)
Multi-colour designs with glitter, PU and foil—press order, timing and the layering rules decorators rely on.
The one rule
Glitter, foil, flock and puff are top layers only. Their surfaces are not designed to accept another film, so anything pressed over them will lift. PU film is the base layer that everything else can sit on.
Press order for a two-layer design
Press the PU base layer for 3–5 seconds only, just enough to tack it, and peel.
Align the glitter top layer and press for the full 15 seconds at 160 °C.
Peel cold, then cover and give a final 5-second press to seal both layers.
Design tips
Keep the base layer slightly larger than the glitter shape to create a clean outline.
Avoid stacking more than two layers on stretch fabrics.
Use a Teflon or silicone sheet over glitter on the final press to protect the surface.
Combinations to avoid
Glitter over glitter: the second layer will not bond.
Any film over foil: the mirror surface releases.
Puff under other films: the expanded layer distorts.
