Puff HTV: How 3D Puff Vinyl Works and How to Press It
The chemistry behind the rise, the settings that control it, and where puff belongs in a streetwear line.
How puff film rises
Puff HTV is a water-based polyurethane film, 200 µm before pressing, that contains a blowing agent. Heat activates the agent and the film expands into a soft, raised relief. The amount of rise depends on temperature, time and pressure, which is why puff needs its own settings.
Press settings
Temperature: 140 °C / 280 °F
Time: 10 seconds
Pressure: medium—too much pressure flattens the rise
Peel: cold
Design guidance
Bold shapes and lettering with strokes of 3 mm or more rise evenly; fine detail collapses. Mirror-cut as usual and weed carefully, because the unexpanded film is soft.
Care and durability
Puff is rated 30+ washes at 60 °C in our lab. Recommend a cold wash inside out and no tumble drying on the care label to extend the life of the relief.
Where puff sells
Streetwear hoodies, event merchandise and kids’ graphics. Pair puff with PU or glitter on the same garment—but never under another layer.
